Yes! The 2018 Honda CR-V does offer an available Real Time AWD with Intelligent Control System! Honda’s AWD is available on all trim models of the CR-V, which includes the LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. Note that the AWD with Intelligent Control is available on these trims, but it is not the standard drivetrain. Additional purchase is required for drivers to get the Honda CR-V’s AWD with Intelligent Control.

The difference between Honda’s Real Time AWD and other AWD drivetrains is that the Real Time AWD knows when and where to engage all four wheels. How it works is that it normally is a front-wheel drive vehicle, but if it senses its losing traction, the AWD will engage the rear differential so that all four wheels are driving the vehicle instead of two. And, the Intelligent Control System makes engages that rear differential seamlessly by using an electric motor on the transmission.
How Efficient is the 2018 Honda CR-V’s AWD?
The trade-off for AWD is that is it requires more fuel and leads to a slightly lower fuel economy. The 2018 Honda CR-V EX, EX-L and Touring with AWD can still get up to an EPA-estimated 33 mpg* highway fuel economy and the LX trim can get up to a 31 mpg* highway fuel economy.
Through all trim models, the Honda CR-V offers the same fuel tank capacity of 14.0 gallons and the same fuel type recommendation, regular unleaded.
